Producing
I have been the lead producer for national performance tours, festival shows, and site-specific productions. Notable producing work includes:
The Container
This play by Clare Bayley about refugees traveling to England in a shipping container – staged inside an actual shipping container – sold out its Edinburgh Fringe run, won a Scotsman Fringe First Award and an Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Award, and continues to be produced around the world.
My Father and Other Superheroes
In addition to the UK tour of this one-person show by award-winning poet, Nick Makoha, I supported a concurrent programme to develop the careers of selected BAME writer-performers, including Yomi Ṣode and Gaël Le Cornec, with mentoring support from Inua Ellams MBE and Lemn Sissay OBE among others.
Fever Pitch
Nick Hornby’s semi-autobiographical football novel was adapted as a musical for Highbury Opera Theatre; the production was staged at London’s iconic Union Chapel to huge media coverage. The photo on this page is from that production (Credit: Claudia Marinaro). I also produced HOT’s Covid-delayed follow-up, an opera adaptation of Sir Michael Palin’s one-act comedy, ‘The Weekend’, staged at the Bloomsbury Theatre, also to significant media coverage.
Site-specific producing includes Re:bourne, which reimagined the historic town of Sittingbourne via a multi-arts takeover of shops, buildings and public spaces (produced with Workers of Arts) and Culture Detectives, which took schoolchildren on a mystery tour of the former Network Rail offices underneath Waterloo Station (produced with A New Direction and Punchdrunk).
